Hutchinson Island

Hutchinson Island is a narrow barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River.  The island is one of the greatest nesting areas in the continental US for endangered sea turtles.  Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles fill Hutchinson Island’s beaches with thousands of turtle eggs each summer when the come ashore to lay their eggs.  It is quite a sight to see the hatchlings scurrying back to the ocean when they are old enough.
